The Summer Holiday Beauty Products You *Need* To Pack

With the summer finally approaching, we’re usually rushing around making sure we have enough bikinis, probably dieting a tad too much, and more concerned with our espadrilles and floral playsuits than what beauty products we’re going to take, because all we need to buy is a tanned foundation, right? Wrong.

During the summer, we need to change our makeup and skincare wardrobe, just as we do our clothes. Our skin needs to be dressed for the weather, and your beauty products need to be rotated to adapt your skin. These are the Summer holiday beauty products that need to be packed in your suitcase with the sunnies!

drySo Britain isn’t famous for our Summers, so the majority of us start our holiday with a plane ride. Fact time; did you know that an airplane journey is more dehydrating for your skin than spending the same amount of time in the Sahara desert? Yup! There is more hydration in the air of the Sahara desert than there is in an airplane. Flying 6,000-8,000 feet in the air also reduces the amount of blood flow to your skin, which steals your glow, too.

l_eauxygenateBoth dehydrated skin and the lack of blood flow reaching the surface of your skin is never a good combination, and it’s always a good idea to try to keep your skin as hydrated as possible during your plane ride. My number one product is Biologique Recherche’s L’Eauxygénate, which is a mist product that works to hydrate the skin through stimulating the epidermis (top layer of the skin), oxygenating the skin, and providing a protective veil to the skin. The Edelwiss within the product provides anti-free radical properties, and the oxygenating complex designed by Biologique Recherche combined, means that this is a mist that combats the lack of hydration within the plane’s air flow, and puts up a good fight from the plane stealing your glow. At £47.00 for the 50ml spray, it’s an expensive beauty gem.

Body ShopAn excellent alternative is the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum, which is suitable for all skin types. It works to hydrate the skin through the use of vitamin E combined with honey, and protects the skin by providing a shield to the skin, locking in your glow and moisture. At £14.00 it’s a more affordable alternative which carries some of the same essential benefits as the Biologique Recherche hydrating mist.

Whatever your hydration preference, be sure to continue use of the product throughout your holiday, as sun exposure combined with dry air can too dehydrate your skin and reduce blood flow throughout your trip.

dipbrowI don’t know about you, but the first day of my holiday consists of sprinting down to the beach as fast as my legs can carry me. That first splash in the sea is long overdue, so relaxing and receiving, and forces the the first full exhale of the holiday. The thing I hate most about dunking my head underwater, though, is the fact that my eyebrows leave my face in the same manner that my stresses leave my body. Not great. I like my eyebrows to stay full for my holiday photos, especially when the sun is unable to tan underneath the brow hair so that you have two pale and glowing lines underneath your brows, which actually highlight the not-so-perfect shape.

Thankfully, whilst holidaying in Thailand earlier this year, I discovered that my favourite brow product is actually waterproof. Yes, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is indeed waterproof. Dunk and dip away with the Dipbrow, and say goodbye to gappy brows this summer. Just don’t rub too hard…

morocon oil.pngAfter a little dip, it’s perfect temperature to do a little sunbathing. Sunbathing every day whilst on holiday, or even just being out in the sun a lot can really damage your hair though. I know that my ends literally fry in the heat, creating a natural ombre when my ends are bleached blonde in the sun.

The sea salt isn’t great for your hair either, it’s really drying for the hair, making it easier for your ends to split and fry in the heat. Just as you would protect your skin, it’s important to protect your hair from the sizzling heat, and rehydrating your hair after a long sizzling day at the beach can really help your hair to heal. My go-to hair mask is the Moroccan Oil Intense Hydration Hair Mask. It instantly revives my hair, adding plenty of shine, softness and making it silky smooth!

I know, who has time to put on a hair mask whilst you’re on holiday? My routine is: beach, hotel, shower, makeup and hair, dinner and drinks. All day. Everyday. So sometimes I like to put the mask in my hair at the beach and rock my hair in a bun. This means that my hair is moist and my ends are hidden away from the sun, protected beneath my bun!

Predicting your shade of tan isn’t the only thing to consider when purchasing your summer foundation. A foundation with SPF is a must, and although you may not like the flashback in your photos, but your older self will thank your younger mind for opting for the foundation with the SPF. Prepping your skin with a sun cream for moisture and protection, and opting for a light foundation with an SPF is perfect for your pre-tan holiday days. Not only does the SPF filter the UV rays that enter the deeper layers of your skin which manages the sun damage to your skin, but using an SPF foundation also enhances the health of your skin by protecting the collagen, keratin and elastin within the skin which are essential anti-ageing properties that naturally harvest within the skin. We want to keep those, and you should be doing all that you can to protect them from the blazing sun!chanel

My favourite holiday foundation is the Chanel Vitalumiére. This foundation is lightweight with a natural coverage, which is perfect for a holiday foundation, because who wants a heavy, full coverage foundation on holiday? What’s even better about this foundation is that it’s both dewy and long lasting, making it the perfect all-rounder for your summer foundation! chch

I love to pair the foundation with the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel.  The Soleil Tan De Chanel is a cream bronzer that perfectly blends with the lightweight foundation emphasising the glow of the foundation, and natural glow of the skin, which is perfect when you’re lacking in hydration and natural blood flow to the skin. The Chanel bronzer is silky, dewy, natural and lightweight, and very similar to the foundation which both work to achieve the dewy sun-kissed glow for summer. I adore this combo!

Have a glowing Summer!
